Các từ nối câu (linking words/connectors) trong tiếng Anh dùng để liên kết ý tưởng, giúp câu văn mạch lạc hơn, chia thành nhiều nhóm như
bổ sung (and, also, moreover), đối lập (but, however, although), nguyên nhân-kết quả (because, since, therefore, as a result), trình tự thời gian (first, next, then, finally), đưa ra ví dụ (for example, for instance), kết luận (in conclusion, to sum up),... để diễn đạt ý nghĩa chính xác hơn.


Các loại từ nối và ví dụ

• Bổ sung thông tin (Addition):
  • and, also, in addition, moreover, furthermore, as well as.
  • Ví dụ: She speaks English. Additionally, she knows French. (Cô ấy nói tiếng Anh. Ngoài ra, cô ấy còn biết tiếng Pháp.).
• Đối lập (Contrast):
  • but, however, although, even though, whereas, on the other hand, in contrast, yet.
  • Ví dụ: I wanted to go out, but it started raining heavily. (Tôi muốn đi chơi, nhưng trời bắt đầu mưa lớn.).
• Nguyên nhân - Kết quả (Cause & Effect):
  • because, since, as, therefore, thus, hence, as a result, consequently, so.
  • Ví dụ: Because it was raining, we stayed home. (Vì trời mưa, chúng tôi ở nhà.)
• Trình tự, Thời gian (Sequence & Time):
  • first, next, then, after that, finally, meanwhile, at the same time, firstly, secondly.
  • Ví dụ: First, we'll discuss the problem. Next, we'll find solutions.(Đầu tiên, chúng ta sẽ thảo luận vấn đề. Tiếp theo, chúng ta sẽ tìm giải pháp.)
• Đưa ra ví dụ (Example):
  • for example, for instance, such as, to illustrate, e.g..
  • Ví dụ: I like fruits, for example, apples and oranges. (Tôi thích trái cây, ví dụ như táo và cam.).
• Kết luận (Conclusion):
  • in conclusion, to conclude, in summary, to sum up, therefore, thus, in short.
  • Ví dụ: In conclusion, the project was a success. (Kết luận, dự án đã thành công.)
• Chỉ sự lựa chọn (Choice):
  • or, alternatively, otherwise.
• Nhắc lại/Làm rõ (Restatement/Clarification):
  • in other words, that is, in simpler terms.

Lưu ý

• Một số từ như because of, due to phải theo sau bởi danh từ/cụm danh từ.
• So thường dùng ít trang trọng hơn therefore.
